A huge rest area on the site of the former Kleeberg colliery:
Lignite mining has been documented in Holzhausen since 1575. A great shortage of wood and the emergence of more and more glass and iron works required new fuel. The Kleeberg colliery was not opened until 1922 after another lignite deposit had been exhausted. By the time it was shut down in 1955, 1.2 million tons of lignite had been mined and up to 100 people were employed. Mining on the Kleeberg was very difficult, as the sandy subsoil prevailed here, which led to many collapses.
