The port is inside the Vinalopó Medio region. Do not be fooled by its altitude, since at 495 meters it still has maximum slopes of between 17 and 20%. The drive is very picturesque and the road has a very good surface.

If you go up from Albatera, the pass is approximately 11 km long with a gentle slope for the first few kilometers but increasing until reaching the last 2.5 km, being very hard with ramps greater than 15%. During the route and before the hard zone, there are two short downhill sections that allow you to recover your legs. The asphalt is very good, no or almost no traffic, there is no shaded area and it is very demanding, only recommended for trained cyclists. Once the port is crowned, its descent towards Hondón de los Frailes is short and easy.
If you go up from Hondón de los Frailes, the pass is shorter, I don't remember the exact distance but it will be close to 3-4 km, and much less hard, more suitable for less fit cyclists, cyclists... Same asphalt and lack of shade. After crowning this slope, the first kilometers of descent are very dangerous, especially a sharp curve to the right in the steepest section. eye! brake long before the corner, the brakes can fail and make a straight with possible fall into a brutal ravine.
