Interesting church building, which leaves an exciting overall impression with its heavy-looking square tower and its relatively short nave, which is more reminiscent of a manor house. Until the Leine retention basin was completed in the early 1980s, the people of Salzderhelden suffered from annual floods from the nearby Leine. This also affected St. Jacobi Church, which was consecrated in 1769. Since the building site was considered too unsafe, the tower was built on the east side, i.e. behind the altar, which also contributes to the aforementioned interesting overall impression. The markings of the worst floods (including in 1946, 1956 and 1981) can be seen in the church wall in the west portal.

The St. Jacobi Church in Salzderhelden stands on the foundations of a previous church, which was demolished in 1763 because it was in a state of disrepair. The new nave took five years to build. However, the parish ran out of money, so the tower could only be built in 1779 after a royal donation of 800 thalers from the lottery fund. On June 5, 1780, the tower ball was placed on top, thus completing the building. The first repair work on the outer walls began in 1860. In 1875, master carpenter Jürges converted the flat church ceiling into the barrel vault that remains today and set up the richly decorated baroque altar. It is not known whether he carved it. Immediately afterwards, in 1876-77, under the supervision of and based on the drawings of Conrad Wilhelm Hase, a new interior, galleries, organ facade and the decoration of the barrel vault were created. It was not until the middle of the 20th century that the old pews were replaced with benches from the auditorium of the Goetheschule in Einbeck.
