The Zonneberg is probably still known to some from the final of the Amstel Gold Race, when the finish was still in Maastricht. This steep climb (up to 19%) was more decisive. But at the bottom of the mountain is an extensive cave system, where guided tours are still given.
With the bike, however, the top gives a fantastic view over the Maas to the east. The church that can be seen at the bottom left is popularly called "Sint-Pieter boven". T.o. the church you can still see the castle where André Rieu lives.

The Zonneberg was not so popular at the Amstel Gold Race, as this is where the wheat was separated from the chaff.
You can visit the caves under the mountain for €9.50 (children: €7.95) or explore them on a guided tour.

The individual areas, the bread ovens, the water pumps, the public communication space and the chapel are silent witnesses to this comprehensive logistical plan.
