In the early Middle Ages, from 1040, sources mention the lords of Ordingen. Their castle acted as a sentry on the border of the county of Loon. Messire Adam de Harduemont is mentioned in 1253. His children and grandchildren were residents of the castle until the 14th century. Lack of descendants made the castle pass into the possession of the related Duras family. In further history names such as:

Arnold van Horion, died in 1481, was buried in the church of Ordingen

the daughter of grandson Willem IV van Horion, Digna married Gerard Huyn van Amstenrade. Gerard decided to sell the castle just before his death. His wife Sophia van Bellinckhausen sold it in 1611 to Edmond Huyn van Amstenrade, Grand Commander of Alden Biesen and member of the Teutonic Order, coincidentally related to her deceased husband...
