The five ponds at a glance
The ponds from east to west are the Altmannenweier, the Eichweier, the Frauenweier (Chrüzweier), the Buebenweier and the Mannenweier. The five little souls are practically on one line. Only the easternmost one, the Altmannenweiher, is a little out of the ordinary and is hidden slightly higher in the forest.
Altmannenweier
The Altmannenweiher is the easternmost of the five ponds. It is hidden in the adjacent forest and is overgrown. More information about Altmannenweier here.
Eichweier
The small oak pond is located next to the women's pond. You can't swim in the little lake and the small pond gets little attention except for dogs who enjoy the water. Further information about Eichweier.
Frauenweier (Chrüzweier)
The Frauenweiher, also known as the Chrüweiher, is the middle of the five ponds. There is a beautiful bathing area and a separate area just for women. Entrance to the pool is subject to a fee. Here is the profile of Frauenweier.
Buebenweier
There is no swimming in the Buebenweiher, but there is a water treading area run by the St. Gallen Kneipp Association in the Seelein. In addition, the pond is open for ice skating in winter, provided the thickness of the ice allows this. More information about Buebenweier.
Mannenweier
The Mannenweiher, the westernmost of the five ponds, is the second one, next to the Frauenweiher, that is suitable for swimming. No entry is required. The Milchhüsli kiosk on the east side of the pond offers food. Here is the profile of the Mannenweier.
Arrival to the Three Ponds
The pond landscape is very well connected to the city center. Take the Mühleggbahn or city buses 2 and 8 (towards St. Georgen Bach) to the “St. Gallen, Mühlegg”. From there you can reach the ponds in about five minutes on foot. In the summer months there is even a bathing bus that goes directly to the ponds. Those arriving by car will find paid parking spaces, including at the Frauenbad.
