In the east of the fortification, the New Gate was built at the end of the 15th century. It is the youngest of the four city gates of Neubrandenburg. From him only the main gate has been preserved. In the gable niches of the city side are eight life-size terracotta figures whose meaning is also unknown.

The Fritz Reuter Society, which actively cultivates the legacy of the great Low German dialect poet, is located in the Neuen Tor. Founded in Lübeck in 1960, in 1991 she relocated to Neubrandenburg. Several hundred members from all parts of Germany have dedicated themselves to the goal of cultivating the Low German language.

In particular, the society is dedicated to the life and work of the well-known Low German poet Fritz Reuter, who spent his most productive years here in Neubrandenburg from 1856 to 1863. During this time, important works such as "Ut mine Stromtid", "Kein Hüsung" or "Hanne Nüte" were produced. Regular readings and other events take place here.
