The Husenmühle (also called the Hüllhorst Watermill; Mill Route No. 34) is located directly west of the town center of Hüllhorst in the idyllic Nachtigallental valley. First mentioned in 1646, it was probably a mill belonging to the nearby Husen estate, the ancestral home of the noble von Schloen family. It was operated by miller Otto Selig until 1962. It then fell into disrepair for more than 20 years until it was purchased and completely restored by a "courageous" Hüllhorst citizen in 1987. The Lusbach stream, which once powered four watermills, still normally carries enough water to turn the overshot waterwheel with a diameter of four meters. After its restoration, the Husenmühle was a byword for romantic and cyclist-friendly gastronomy for around 30 years, with a stunningly beautiful beer garden, barbecue grill, and historic ambiance. Unfortunately, the tenants changed several times until the restaurant remained closed until further notice and the mill wheel was without water.
