The view of the Cosizza stream in August 2022, one of the hottest years in history, is that of a severe shortage of water, with the pools and waterfalls to the right of the madonnina completely dry.

The statue of the Madonna, which is very special and immediately catches the attention when crossing the bridge, has a history of its own.

"The Madonnina di Liessa, located on the shore of the Cosizza stream, was placed at the end of the 1950s by the then parish priest Don Giovanni Nimis.
The village girls solemnly carried the statue of the Madonna from the church to its new location in procession.
The base was made up of four concrete columns that supported a sphere, also made of concrete; the majolica figurine was positioned on the sphere.
All for a height of about 180 cm.

With the passage of time the bad weather and the floods of the river have ruined the majolica madonnina.
Around the 1970s, the mother of the parish priest Don Azeglio Romanin bought a new one in faux marble.

On 27 October 1990 a violent storm carried off the Madonna and the base.
The then parish priest Don Azeglio organized a collection among the faithful to bring the Madonna back to her place.
This was done on August 15, 1991, with a solemn celebration and procession.

Currently, the statue and base are copies of the original, all made of Piasentina stone.

The base bears an inscription:
'impetu aquae diruta 1990
fidelium pietate restituta 1991 A.D. '
(destroyed by the rush of water in 1990, rebuilt in the year of the Lord 1991 by the piety of the faithful).

To protect everything, there is now an iron barrier.

A few months after the placement, the fisherman Feletig Francesco finds the old Madonna near his home, below the scree on the river bank.
Miraculously, despite having traveled about 1 km between stones and swirling waters, the Madonna had barely a few scratches.
The fishermen of the municipality thus decided to place the statue in the place where it was found, titling it 'Madonnina del Pescatore'. "

An outstanding showcase of Christian strength, Christian will, and the Catholic faith in villages far from the cities.
