With a total area of 10.5 hectares, the Maaltebrugge Park is one of the larger parks in Ghent. It is a romantic park, laid out in the English landscape style. Typical are bridges over the water and monumental single trees such as red beech and oak.

Due to its respectable age, the park is rich in nature. Not only the old trees are special, but also the 'microrrhizen' on their roots. These are mushrooms that live closely with trees. For example, in the Maaltebrugge Park we find milk mushrooms, porcini mushrooms and the endangered sun russula.

The grasslands in the Maaltebrugge Park are also very rich in species with wild thyme, spring ganzerik or reed orchid. Because the grasslands have been extensively managed for years, many special mushrooms such as coral mushrooms, satin mushrooms and wax sheets grow here.

The forest zones in the Maaltebrugge Park attract typical forest birds. And mammals such as mice, weasels and polecats also live there.
