Mid-size border town at a strategic location on the Northern Macedonian side. Some decent resupply and accommodation options. Moderate interest to visit, partially for the vivid history typical for many border towns: it changed hands in rapid succession from the Ottoman Empire, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the socialist Republic of Yugoslavia, and finally independent Northern Macedonia, with a few wars and occupations by other countries in between. In all this, Gevgelia developed casinos as one way of revenue, acquiring the dubious reputation as the "Balkan Las Vegas".
