The building was built according to plans by the Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler in the arched style of the late 19th century. The Sermon Church is located in the middle of a cemetery, it was consecrated on May 11, 1864. Since 1976 the church has been a listed building in the city's list of monuments. From 1978 to 1982 it was restored according to the original findings, and new choir windows were installed in 1984. The bell tower was renovated from 2005, the heavy steel bells had caused severe damage. The renovation was completed in 2009.
