The new hiking experience between
Altmühl and Danube

Between the Altmühl and the Danube, the demanding hiker will find a lovable landscape that the Urdonautalsteig has been opening up over a length of 60 kilometers since the summer of 2014. From the southern Altmühltal nature park near Dollnstein, the new hiking trail leads via Wellheim and Rennertshofen through the famous Wellheimer dry valley to beyond the Danube to the edge of the Donaumoos near Oberhausen and Neuburg an der Donau.
The Urdonautalsteig leads on five daily stages through an unmistakable landscape with a very exciting story of how it came about that reads like a thriller. Always on the lookout for the best route for their cargo, small and large rivers made landscape history here for millions of years. The result is a varied mosaic of gentle valley flanks, rugged rock formations and juniper heaths, as well as pristine alluvial forests and the broad flowing Danube - a wonderful backdrop for eventful hikes!
