The Hunolstein ruins were once a hilltop castle at 395 meters above sea level: It was the seat of the former bailiffs of Hunolstein and the legend goes that this was also the seat of Hunold from the Nibelungen saga. It was so badly damaged in the Thirty Years War that it was no longer worth rebuilding.
