Set among the mountains in a small valley once defined as "dark" we find a fairytale town: Roccapia. Crossing the narrow streets of the village it almost seems to be catapulted back through the centuries, among the smells that come out of the houses, the wood piled under the stairs of the houses and the white smoke that rises thick from the chimneys. The ancient architecture of the town, characterized by buildings with arches, loggias, external stairways called "vignali" and at the top by the ruins of the Cantelmo - Caldora castle, refer to the distant Middle Ages. The village crossed in 1860 by the army of Vittorio Emanuele, definitively changed its name in honor of the daughter of King Maria Pia. The naturalistic context in which the town is located, from the neighboring nature reserve of Monte Genzana and Alto Gizio to the nearby Altipiano delle Cinquemiglia, is a scenario that leaves you breathless.
