The Via Claudia Augusta was an important Roman road that led from Italy across the Alps to the Danube in Germany. Today there is a bike path that is over 650 kilometers long, where you can ski the entire route from Germany to Italy.

On the section in South Tyrol, the cycle path Via Claudia Augusta runs mostly parallel to the Etschtal cycle path. On some sections of the route the two cycle paths meet and have the same course for a few kilometers.

When driving on the Via Claudia Augusta impresses not only the beautiful scenery along the way, but also the many places on the track, which have an incredible amount of history to tell.

One of the most beautiful cycling paths in Europe.
The ancient Via Claudia Augusta was built by the Roman Emperor Claudio in the first century AD, it connected the Latin world of northern Italy with the Germanic one of the Danube area.
Today the Via Claudia Augusta lives again as a cycling route that, starting from Venice or Verona and crossing Austria, leads after 655 kilometers to the German city of Donauwoerth on the Danube.
The crossing of the Alps takes place at Resia Pass at about 1400 m altitude
