In 1899, the farm that belonged to the castle was demolished. A villa took its place. This was the basis for the current castle-like building, which was equipped with a tower at the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1938, the then municipality of Maarheeze bought the property and the castle was converted into a town hall. This remained until 1997, when the municipality of Maarheeze merged into the merged municipality of Cranendonck.

The history of Baronie Cranendonck goes way back in time. Around 1250 a castle was built on the edge of the Cranendonck forest. This castle came into the possession of the Oranges in the middle of the 16th century. This remained so until the French period.
Although the castle was destroyed by the French in 1673, there are still remains of the ruins in the ground. On top of these foundations of the castle, the contours of the former fortress have been made visible by means of earthen walls.
After the French period, the estate and the grounds around it belonged to various private owners.
