The Hessian-Thuringian border museum was laid out on a section of the former inner-German border. The museum includes an outdoor area as well as former customs and control barracks that were moved to the museum grounds. In its rooms, the changes in the region after the Second World War are remembered, i.e. the exchange of villages between Hesse and Thuringia and the construction of the border fortifications since 1952.
Opening times are daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A visit is very worthwhile.
The former border fence preserved in the outdoor area is still a place today that clearly reflects the horrors of that time.

An oppressive feeling makes you ready to look up through the valley to the Border Museum.
You drive along the column path, right next to it the high, gray border fence, in between the death strip, in the valley of the NVA bunker and at the height opposite the border tower.
The border is now open for 30 years, but this depressing feeling is still inside.
