The small village of Rechtenstein lies directly on the Danube, between Riedlingen and Munderkingen, east of Zwiefalten and in the southwest lies Obermarchtal. Rechtenstein is on the Danube cycle path and offers some eye-catchers!
The former Rechtenstein Castle is located on the hill with a view of the Danube and the Danube Valley. This hilltop castle ruin is at an altitude of 550 meters (above sea level) and it takes some effort to cope with the difference in altitude, but it is definitely worth it. Of the former Stain Castle, only the tower, i.e. the keep, has been preserved. You can visit it, but the site is partly privately owned.
Inside the tower, the only building in the Rechtenstein ruin that can be visited, you can get a picture of the former castle through panels and objects and of course a sensational view over the Danube valley in Upper Swabia. Other relics from the Middle Ages can be found on the walls of the surrounding private buildings.
