Until almost 100 years ago - in 1929 - the north could be reached directly by ship from the North Sea via the Leybucht and the Norder Tief. After the construction of the sewer and the pumping station in 1962, on the way from the north to the Wadden Sea you first have to go by ship via the lock here at Leybuchtsiel into Störtebekertief in the direction of Greetsiel. From there via the Leybuchtnase, completed in 1991, northwest of Greetsiel out to the Leysiel lock .. Two beautiful bike routes lead from here on the Leybucht to Greetsiel: either outside in front of the dike, with a view of the silting bay, or behind the dike, there it goes a little faster on the dyke entertainment route.

The Leybuchtsiel pumping station transports the water from the Norder Tief via the Störtebek Canal into the North Sea. The retention basin is right next door. There is also the paddle and pedal station with a café.
