Built in the 17th century, nothing is known about its history. But because it catches the eye due to its location and furnishings, the characteristics of a half-timbered house will be listed using its example.

In the narrow medieval streets it served to gain living space, but also for representation.

The small size of the windows served as insulation, as the fireplace in the kitchen was the only source of heat. In our house, the windows on the ground floor were only enlarged to set up a shop (1923).

Half-timbered houses like this shaped the city's image until the 18th century because they were quicker and cheaper to build than brick buildings. But they have become rare because the lightweight construction means a shorter lifespan than solid buildings. Some of them burned down because they were covered with straw; It was not until 1730 that fire-hazardous straw roofs were finally banned in Kempen.
