Pont-Aven owes its fame in part to Paul Gauguin who stayed there on numerous occasions between 1886 and 1894. Inspired by the men and the landscapes, the painter forged his style there.

It was in Pont-Aven, in Brittany, that his art was revealed, he even created the "Pont-Aven school" as he loved this village in Finistère. Within this school we find illustrious impressionist painters such as Émile Bernard, Paul-Émile Colin, Paul Sérusier, Charles Filiger, Maxime Maufra, Henry Moret, Ernest de Chamaillard, Louis Roy.
