There was a chapel on this spot as early as the 12th century, built by the monks of the Helmarshausen monastery. Around 1168 they began to clear the long valley.
The village fountain in front of the church has been there since the village was settled in the 12th century.
The stone church was built in the middle of the 16th century and had a bell since 1621. After the destruction of the Thirty Years' War, the church was restored.
The pulpit was erected in 1648 and in 1678 the altar area was extended and a gallery was built.
A square, stepped ridge turret made of boarded timber framework rises on the gable roof. This has a pointed pyramid roof.
The Protestant church in Langenthal belongs to the Trendelburg parish.

In front of the church you can still see very old gravestones from the cemetery that used to be there.
