This former fortified castle located 594 meters above sea level on a puy overlooks the Limagne plain. Its role was to monitor and protect Riom and its surroundings.
This medieval castle was the property of the counts of Auvergne. It was later a royal castle. This shows its strategic importance in Auvergne.

on a rocky peak at an altitude of 600 meters in
overlooking the plain of Limagne. He was watching
the surroundings of the city of Riom, commercial capital
and judicial office of Basse-Auvergne, as well as the abbey
royal of Mozac. The position of isolation and overhang
gave the castle its reputation as a building
impregnable.
The foundations of this fortress extend over 75m
long and 25m wide.
