The Torrance Barrens and dark sky preserve is one of the best places to see the night sky in all its beauty. There is almost no light pollution here and as a result you can easily see the Milky Way and planets like Saturn from here. It is even possible to catch glimpses of the northern lights.
The barren granite surface is perfect for blueberries to grow on, so I have often seen black bears here in late summer feasting on the berries
