The border crossing camp in Friedland was established after the Second World War to provide shelter for returnees and displaced persons. From there, they were sent back to their old or a new home. Later, war refugees and asylum seekers were also housed at GDL Friedland. Today there are still around 1,000 beds in the warehouse.
For a few years now, there is a small museum in Friedland's old train station, where you can find out about the special history of the border crossing camp.
