The church was built around 1170 in Romanesque style. Quartzite was used as building material in the surrounding area. On the west side of the church is the 17 meter high with twelve sound openings provided transverse rectangular tower. He is covered with a pitched roof. To the east stretches the nave.

The church served as a pilgrimage church and received therefore in the time around 1200 a side ship. This is followed by three large arches, which can be seen on the south side and the west side of the Marienkapelle. On the north side of the nave, four small Romanesque window openings have been preserved. Originally, there was a semicircular apse on the east side of the ship. In 1629 the church was damaged during the Thirty Years' War. After 1690, alterations were made, with the apse removed and the church extended to the east. Since then, a high choir with a straight degree has been completed.
