The trail leads to the crash site of an ME 109, which was shot down on September 13, 1944 during an aerial battle. The pilot was the 20-year-old Fahnenjunker NCO Herbert Zimmermann, who fought his first aerial combat, and it was to be his last. It was precisely at this point that a monument in the form of a heavy boulder was later placed by master stonemason Heinrich Vieth from Friedlos.
