Although the formerly proud Hemmerich Castle has been a ruin since a devastating fire shortly after the end of the Second World War, it is still a clearly visible testimony to the castle complex of that time.

After the castle was destroyed by fires in 1869 and 1906, the mansion was rebuilt as a neo-renaissance villa according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Graf Mörner. After a third fire in 1945, triggered by forced laborers released during the Second World War, the castle was only a ruin. Hunold Freiherr von Nordeck zu Nordeck, who lived on the site with his wife until his death in 2004, had some buildings repaired. The site has been uninhabited since 2004. It was acquired by the Stollenwerk family, owners of the canning factory of the same name. Since the death of Josef Stollenwerk in 2016, the castle has been owned by a community of heirs. Until 2018 there were no plans for a new use and the castle continued to deteriorate.
