The historic old town is the treasure of Idstein. The centuries-old building in the center of the former royal residence is one of the most beautiful corners of the pretty community. The old town is dominated by half-timbered houses from the 15th to the 18th century, which are partially provided with rich carvings. Add to that nobility seats such as the Stockheimer Hof from the 16th century and the former stately building group in the upper Schloßgasse with witch tower and castle. Also attractive are the simple, but well-kept craftsman houses from the time of the first city expansion, which took place around 1700. The King Adolf Square is the center of the city and its parlor. It is surrounded by half-timbered houses dating mostly around 1600. Next to the town hall from 1698 stands on the left the so-called "crooked house", which was built in 1728 for the major of the city militia Nicolay. To the right of the town hall is the mighty "chancellery", which since 1497 forms the entrance to the castle district.

The old town of Idstein is definitely worth a visit. If you arrive from further afield, you should treat yourself to an overnight stay if possible.

The old town is worth seeing and can be easily planned as a cappuccino break on a RR tour. Cobblestones are a merciful alternative for the RR ;-)
