This perfectly paved path runs below Johannisberg Castle. From here you not only have a beautiful view of the majestic castle, but also, as in so many places in the Rheingau, of the sparkling Rhine and the Rheinhessen hill country. On nice days you almost feel like you are in Tuscany.

This castle is worth seeing, no question. However, there is another castle in the Rheingau (whose winery has also made wine history), which, in my opinion, is architecturally more beautiful: Vollrads Castle. This castle doesn't look strictly Napoleonic, but rather playful and romantic, with its pond, turrets, and beautiful grounds.
From here, too, excellent panoramic trails lead through the adjacent vineyards. The so-called "Flute Trail" even connects the two castles.

I can see the castle every day from our terrace and living room. Nevertheless, it is still a very beautiful castle, and next to it there is a stand from the Schloss Johannisberg winery that invites you to linger and where you can enjoy delicious Rheingauer Riesling. By the way, you can afford a castle like that if you just sell enough pudding powder 😏, the entire system belongs to Dr. Oetker Group
