A really beautiful place. With its castle garden in the immediate vicinity of the large Eutiner Lake, it is a highly recommended address. If you want, you can linger in the castle courtyard with a really delicious piece of cake and/or look at the exhibition.

Eutin Castle is one of the most beautiful castle complexes in Schleswig-Holstein. The four-winged building with its Mediterranean-style courtyard and the extensive English landscape garden attracts thousands of visitors to East Holstein every year. The former medieval bishop's castle of the Lübeck bishops was converted into today's representative, baroque castle complex between 1717 and 1727 by the court architect Rudolf Matthias Dallin. The magnificent interior is evidence of the stately living conditions of the Dukes of Oldenburg at the time and is open to the public as part of a permanent exhibition in the Eutin Castle Museum.

Schleswig-Holstein is hardly more impressive: The four-winged complex of the Eutin Castle, from the north north-backsteinern, with entrance and south tower, southern seeming courtyard with fountain and moat around the building is located directly on the lake and is surrounded by a sprawling English landscape garden.
Around 1160, the first branch of the pretty bishops was already suspected here in Eutin. Strife with the stubborn secular citizenship of the Hanseatic city forced the religious lords from their ancestral city into the local "exile". From 1586, the Gottorfer dukes, who had meanwhile been elected bishops of the Prince-Bishopric of Lübeck, converted the estate into a prince-bishop's residence and from 1773 the Oldenburg (Groß) -Herzöge became lords in the house through the union of the area with Oldenburg and Delmenhorst: Eutin was their seat of government, later only summer residence. For many hundreds of years, the prestigious castle was built, but in the meantime, like so many buildings of the time, it burned down until it was given its present form around 1840, with an increase in the size and design of the Schlossplatz.

On the tour through the park the love temple / lake pavilion passes, backstage past the open air stage, through the festival village into the kitchen / herb garden. Always with a floral fragrance hanging everywhere.

The Eutin Castle is certainly impressive and usually really beautiful. Only this year it was wrapped in scaffolding for restoration purposes. Therefore, it is better to postpone the visit to the year 2022.
