The Lieps belongs to the territory of the city Neubrandenburg and is located only a few hundred meters south of the Tollensesees. It is connected to the north by canals (eg "Alter Graben"). The Lieps, which is fed mainly by the Ziemenbach and the Eichseebach (Zippelower brook), is 3 kilometers long and 2.5 kilometers wide. The average water depth is 2.3 meters. Its water catchment area is 82.6 km² and is predominantly agricultural. The Lieps is part of the nature reserve Nonnenhof.
