Gournia, which lies in a saddle between two low hills on the expressway from Agios Nikolaos to Ierapetra, is the best preserved Minoan town in all of Crete. The original name of this Minoan city is not known and the current name comes from small, old cavities that belonged to the houses of the settlement. Source: kretatipp.de/gournia Please don't be disappointed: the excavation is much smaller than Knossos, Phäistos and Kato Zakros.
We liked the excavation site and would love to come back again. I agree with Claudia. Here, after a visit to Knossos, you can get an overview in peace without being pushed along by the next bus group 👍
