The motorway was dredged in the late 1930s to win gravel for highway construction. Today it is a popular recreational area in front of the gates of Augsburg. The bathing lake is surrounded by lawns with old trees; a beautiful path leads with about 2.1 km in length around the lake.
It also offers a barbecue area, toilet facilities, a kiosk with beer garden, a restaurant, a water watch station and three large, free parking spaces.

For the little ones there is a large children's play area on the eastern shore for romping and for the adults a beach volleyball court.

The lake is up to 4 m deep and about 17 ha in size. The water quality is constantly monitored by the health department.

The lake is located directly on the A8 motorway exit, the ADAC practice area is next door. But he is also very easy to reach by bike.

In winter, he is - in addition to the Kuhsee - also very popular for ice skating.
