Story
A first mention of the compulsory mill belonging to Tüschenbroich Castle (i.e. the neighboring farmers were forced to have their grain ground here) dates back to 1506. Until 1834 it was owned by the Counts of Spiering. The grinder, which is now derelict, was used until the 1940s. Other names of the mill were Scherpensmühle, Pannenmühle and Holthofmühle.
Since 1863 a pub was connected, which is still run as a modern restaurant. The liquor license for this was granted to Mr. Wilhelm Gellissen by the royal government on December 29, 1862. In 1869 Johann Hermann Königs received the liquor license.

Description
The two-storey mill building of the Tüschenbroicher Mühle was built on the western bank of the Schwalm or the Mühlengraben in the 18th century as a half-timbered building. Structural extensions were later made in a westerly direction.
The mill is fed from the water of the castle pond, which also serves as a mill pond. The difference in height between the accumulated water in the mill pond and the castle pond and the Untergraben is (slightly more than) 2.50 meters - high enough to drive an overshot water wheel with two grain grinding cycles in alternation (Jungbluth & Elsner 1989, p. 22). With an overshot waterwheel, the water falls onto the waterwheel from above. According to the mill owner, the Tüschenbroicher Mühle is the only mill with an overshot water wheel drive on the Schwalm.
