When revolutionary French troops plundered their way through the Streu Valley in 1796, a group of fighters led by Ignaz Reder confronted the French. During the skirmishes, Ignaz Reder fell at the foot of the Altenberg near present-day Bad Neustadt.

In his honor, a prominent, visible, approximately 15-meter-high cross, the Reder Cross, was erected on the Altenberg.
