The late Gothic Expositurkirche St. Michael from the 15th century received a tower dome after a storm damage in the summer of 1725. In 1859 the church was expanded, and in 1978 the dome was given a copper sheet roof. The decor is neo-Gothic.

This church in Egglfing am Inn was consecrated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) have the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints calendar is September 29th.

Probably the most famous sanctuary dedicated to the Archangel Michael is in France. It is the "Mont-Saint-Michel", in the far north of the country on an island in front of Normandy. This unique monastery island is not only a place of worship, but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
