The largest fortified structure in Trentino-Alto Adige, Castel Beseno dominates the valley below in the municipality of Besenello. Keeper of a museum, cellars and frescoes, Castel Beseno enjoys a splendid view of the Vallagarina and its construction was completed in the 12th century.

Castel Beseno
Castel Beseno/Castel Pietra is one of the most extensive fortified complexes in Trentino, located in the Vallagarina valley between Trento and Rovereto, just above the motorway. At the foot of the castle was the famous Battle of Calliano in 1487 between Emperor Maximilian I and the Venetians, who wanted to conquer the Adige Valley from the south. The Castell Pietra, which stands directly on the cliff edge above the valley, acted as an outpost of the Castell Beseno.
