Freiherr vom Stein was an important reformer in the late 18th century and the Prussian administrator of the western provinces, ie Westphalia. Friedrich Harkort, an important entrepreneur of the early industrialization in the Ruhr area, first had a wooden tower built. With the entrance and donation funds, the stone tower was built in 1869. Today the tower is closed due to dilapidated stairs. However, there are plans for a restoration.
