Tantow was first mentioned in a document in 1255. Presumably a church was built in Tantow at this time. The palace chapel was built according to plans by the Prussian court architect Friedrich August Stühler.
The predecessor of today's castle chapel, one of Casper v. Eickstedt church built in 1591, burned down in 1805. In 1856 the castle chapel, a neo-Gothic brick building with an apse, was built.
