Just a few kilometers from the Landmannalaugar campsite lies the Kerlingardalsá River Canyon. It's not one of the most famous, but that makes it even more surprising: a volcanic gorge carved by water, with dark walls and green lichens that glisten in the light. The trail to reach it combines technical stretches of loose lava and narrow passes, ideal for adventurous mountain bikers. Pedaling between rock columns and hearing the roar of the river is a taste of Iceland at its wildest and least visited.
