The nature conservation station Zippendorf is located on the southern shore of Lake Schwerin, opposite the islands of Rabbit Werder and Ziegelwerder. It was formerly a municipal institution and was taken over in the spring of 2002 by a sponsoring association. This is composed of the nature conservation associations NABU and BUND and the zoo Schwerin, the national association of beekeepers e. V., the Foundation for Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and committed citizens of Schwerin.

One of the focal points of Zippendorf nature conservation station is the environmental education work with children in day care centers, schools and hoarding, as well as the care and landscape management on the islands rabbit and brick Werder in cooperation with the city of Schwerin. The permanent exhibition "Lebensraum Schweriner See" offers insights into life on and around Lake Schwerin. In addition to sea dwellers, current results of the urban project "SeeNaTour" Schwerin are on display.

Zippendorf's sandy beach, which is up to 20 meters wide, almost feels like you're at the seaside.

The elongated city beach is located on the southern shore of Schwerin's inner lake
and is easily accessible on foot or by bike from the old town.

At 20 meters wide and enormously long, Zippendorf Beach is the city's largest sandy beach. Hundreds of bathers flock here in the summer.

The historic beach promenade invites you to stroll and, with its cozy cafés and restaurants, provides a pleasant dining experience.

As early as the 19th century, Zippendorf was a popular destination far beyond the city limits. The villas along the beach promenade, with their cafés and restaurants, bear witness to this era. Today, hundreds of sunseekers flock here in the summer,
while regular beach volleyball, disco music, and a cocktail bar ensure a lively beach atmosphere. While you relax, play badminton or volleyball, the little ones can have fun in the playground, public restrooms, and the German Red Cross (DRK) water rescue service.
