The castle is considered a typical Adelburg castle of the Staufer period. The castle is situated on a steep rocky plateau sloping to all sides. The castle was surrounded by a strong curtain wall, which still today imposingly raises it from the ground. The castle originally had an outer bailey, where today the hiking trail stretches along the castle. At the entrance of the castle is still the keep, which was preserved on one side in its full height. In the northwest is the Palas with its outbuildings
The ruin is quite winding, so there is much to discover. A shelter with benches is also available.
There are still renovations in progress (Oct. 2018).
Burg Groß Geroldseck is a freely accessible castle ruin with an imposing keep, which was preserved on one side in its full height. The castle was built to protect the abbey Maursmünster.
Gastronomy is available at the nearby castle Hohbarr.
