The “Saline Gottesgabe” looks back on almost 1,000 years of salt production. Originally only used by the Kreuzherrenkloster for their own use, after 1611 extraordinarily good business was expected by the Lords of Velen in the trade. In this hope they gave the saltworks the melodious name "God's gift". Later in the 18th century a modern salt works and the almost 300 meter long thorn graduation tower were built. Today the preserved and renovated facility is a popular destination.
