    Inseli Rheinfelden / Inseli Burgstell
    Inseli Burgstell
    Stein Castle used to stand on the Inseli. That's why it is also called Burgstell. It was the home of King Rudolf of Rheinfelden. Today it is a beautiful park with a view of the Rhine and the old town.
    The home of the Counts of Rheinfelden.
    The Counts of Rheinfelden built Stein Castle on the island in the 10th century because of its strategically favorable location. After the death of Rudolf of Rheinfelden, the Zähringers and later King Rudolf of Habsburg lived in the castle. In 1446 it was razed in the war between Austria and Basel. From 1685-1745 there was also an artillery fortress on the rock.
    Rhine bridge to Inseli.
    In the 12th century a bridge was built from both banks to Burgstell. The tree-covered shell limestone rock, called "Inseli", divides the 147-meter-long bridge into two sections angled at about 120 degrees from each other.

      The small Rhine island is now a beautiful park with a view of the Rhine and the old town. It was once the home of the Counts of Rheinfelden.
      In the middle of the park there is a pretty fountain from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the old town and the Rhine. If you stop by in the afternoon, with a bit of luck you can see the arrival of the scheduled boat from Basel.

        Rheinfelden Switzerland can now claim to have its own island: The "Inseli"! The small island in the middle of the Rhine is now a popular park and bathing area on the Rhine. In the past, however, the Inseli was an important political scene: Royal splendor twice outshone the castle, which stood on the steeply rising rock for many centuries. At the end of the 11th century, the castle lord Rudolf von Rheinfelden was the anti-king to Henry IV. Around 200 years later, Rudolf I, from the Habsburg family, resided at the "Stein Castle".
        The castle complex was destroyed in the 18th century. In the 19th century, a park was created here, which was restored according to historical models as part of the bridge renovation in 2012. Sculptures commemorate the eventful history of the peaceful, affectionately named "Inseli".
