The church predecessor was demolished in 1512, and a new church built of bricks. In 1717, a fire destroyed almost the entire church. It was rebuilt several times. It fell into GDR times, so that threatened a demolition. Since 1997, it has been extensively renovated.

The Castle Church Leipzig-Lützschena is an Evangelical-Lutheran church building in the Leipzig district of Lützschena.

Lützschena was first mentioned in a document in 1278. At that time, after the death of Johannes von Brandis, Margrave Dietrich von Landsberg sold the village to Bishop Friedrich von Merseburg. At this point, Lützschena already had a long history. The Slavic root in the place name refers to a foundation by the Sorbs, who were probably already here in the 7th/8th centuries. Century "on the meadows" or "on an arch" of the nearby White Elster (cf. related place names such as Leutzsch or Lockwitz).

During the German expansion of the state in the 11th to 13th centuries, Lützschena received a moated castle on today's castle grounds. In front of it was a small church, which was used jointly by the residents of the castle complex and the village. It is not known when an independent parish was established. Likewise, the consecrated name of this first church can no longer be determined.
