Komoot is for the whole round, about 17 km and 1500 hm, easy to go. Well, a nice day trip I thought.
The 6 km from Robertson up to the Dassieshoek Nature Reserve, starting point of the hike, even with the road bike easy, on very good slopes. The Komoot Track at the entrance is very accurate, so there exactly follow the GPS. At the starting point there are many tracks, some 4-wheel-drive slopes and a huge picnic area.
The now very good trail meanders through grass and scrubland steadily. Soon, however, it sometimes becomes steep, with 40-50 cm high natural steps and rock barriers. I'm slowing down.
Just as steep and difficult, it goes down into the first canyon, with some climbing passages along the streambed.
The trail now leads along the slope through deep grass and bushes. Walking becomes difficult and slow, as the rocky ground is not always visible. Good foot feel is useful. Nevertheless, I once stepped downhill on grass - in the void and tumble equal to 3 m down. Ok, I'm forewarned! After another 2 hours slow Vorwaerstkommens the next, almost dried up stream course. Through this, the trail now leads diretissima up.
Meanwhile it is 12 o'clock, I am at 1000 meters and only about one third of the way is done. Bye Bye Arangiskop. At one o'clock, reversing was announced. Now it becomes clear why the lady from the hostel spoke of a 2 day tour.
So - equipped with real mountain boots, hiking sticks, sleeping bag, provisions, water for a stay on the hut just below the summit (permit, hut key required, available in Robertson) this is a great mountain tour with permanent, magnificent views of the Breede Valley.
About 10-11 hrs, down about 9 hrs. At 30 degrees in the summer reasonably exhausting and definitely not easy, as Komoot describes.
The complete trail with aprrox. 17 km and 1500 m elevation is a 2 day trip. In between, just about the summit of Arangiskop you will find a hat for overnight stay. The key for the hut and the 2 day permit is available in Robertson.
The distance and elevation seems to be possible in one day, but the terrain is not easy, sometimes with climbing sections, difficult creek crossings.
But it's a very nice mountain tour with great views over the Breede Valley!
