The old town center is worth seeing. Church, tithe house, renovated half-timbered houses with beautiful courtyards and parts of the old city wall. There is something to discover everywhere.

Jockgrim, on a spur of the high bank of the Rhine. The place, first mentioned in 1223 under the name “Jochenheim”, was owned by the Prince-Bishops of Speyer in the Middle Ages, who temporarily held their seat there. The city wall, which is still partially well-preserved today, dates from this time, while the bailiwick and the remaining fortifications were razed by French invasion troops in 1793.

A nice place for a break and a great story of an emancipated woman in difficult times. You also have a good view from the mountain spur on which the old Jockgrim stands.

Lina Born Summer Müller, (born July 8, 1862 in Speyer, † July 27, 1932 in Karlsruhe) was a Palatinate dialect poet. In 1887 she married the widower Adolph Sommer, who was over 20 years older than her and who died in December 1904. Six children were born, three of whom died very early.

She loved her Palatinate and dedicated numerous poems to her. She lived in the southern Palatinate town of Jockgrim and spent her childhood in Speyer and her youth in Mannheim, Heidelberg and Würzburg. She spent her twilight years in Karlsruhe, where the Lina summer facility was created in her memory. Her grave can be found in Jockgrim today.

Jockgrim and its Hinterstädtel are picturesquely situated on a promontory of the Hochgestades. From the basement you can have a wonderful view of the former fortress Jockgrim, which was once provided with a city wall and fortress towers and surrounded by a moat.
Jockgrim was one of the "royal villages" on the edge of the Bienwald, which fell to the Speyer monastery in 1265. Under Emperor Charles IV, the place received city rights in the 14th century. The Hinterstädtel with the Ludwigstrasse belongs to the oldest part of Jockrim. Half-timbered houses are lovingly prepared and they testify to a wealthy pearl of the Bienwald.
