The oldest parts of the Niederungsburg made of brick are its gate tower and the foundations, which date from the end of the 13th / beginning of the 14th century. The former trenches that surrounded the complex are only partially preserved.

First mentioned in a document in 893, Obbendorf Castle was a knight's seat for a long time, and for a few decades also an agricultural enterprise. Since 1995, a hotel restaurant is housed in the Obbendorf Castle - which makes the interior of the castle accessible to the general public (at least if it consumes something or stays overnight there). From time to time, events and theme meals take place in the restaurant.
